Interview

Austin got his 1st motorcycle when he was 10 years old but didn’t start racing motocross until he turned 16. He continued to race for about 5 years but then turned his dirt bike in for a sport bike.  It wasn’t until about a year ago that Austin started racing Motocross again. He likes the physical challenges of racing.

Austin is impressed with “how clean” the AZOT rider’s race. He had lots of examples but there was one race imparticular where he was coming up on the outside of a turn and the other rider was on the inside but that rider avoided taking the main line which would have cut Austin off. He said that took a lot of restraint & skill from a rider to do that.

He raced the 2021 AZOT International race & enjoyed camping with his wife & loved being able to race two days in a row.  Austin says he’s probably a 7 when it comes to being competitive. The most important thing for him is to reach his personal goals.

Austin is the new Race Director for the AZOT Club and he has been busy getting ready for the Fall racing schedule and preparing for his new role. The system for maintaining accurate points is ready and he’s in the process of getting his 8-member Race Committee in place.  He and his team will be observing races in order to assess riders’ abilities and oversee that members are in the appropriate riding class.  They will also enforce the competition rules at events, manage requests for move-ups and move-downs, and handle any protests when needed.  Since the majority of AZOT members have been racing with the club for quite a while, most of the assessing and assigning will happen when new members join.  Austin loves motocross racing and is eager to get back on the track with his competitors/friends and also welcome new members to AZOT.
